A team of German and American scientists have discovered in Madagascar a new species of chameleon, belived to be the smallest in the world.

metro.co.uk reports:

This specialist of the species is smaller than the width of a fingernail, and could reasonably be likened to finding a needle in a hay stack.

‘It is not accidental that the smallest species of a given taxonomic group often occur on islands,’ said Dr Glaw.

Four new species were found in total by the research team, who have raised their concerns over illegal logging in the area that they believe is having an adverse effect on the micro-creature’s vulnerable habitat.
